So today was my first day at work!
Not at all what I expected.
I was completely prepared to be introduced to a bunch of catty, mean girls...
They were all so sweet! When I got there my manager S told me to clock in and just go hostess. I asked who I was going to be shadowing, and the answer was no one. I asked what I was supposed to do and he said I'd figure it out, just be sure to get the door for every guest coming in and leaving. Whenever any of the girls had a free moment they would come up to the front to stand with me and talk.
They explained the jist of what I was supposed to do: Open the door and say, "welcome to Hooters! How many? Inside or outside?" and then I just kind of take them wherever I want. I tried my best to do it like it was a rotation versus sections since it was slow, but everyone wants to sit outside because the weather is gorgeous and we are right on the beach with an awesome view! I totally felt like I had no idea what I was doing, but the other girls were really supportive and said I did a good job.
It was pretty slow so we blew up some beach balls and threw those around (and at eachother) for a while, and they showed me how to run food and bus tables.
After actually wearing the uniform for a shift, I realized that even though I thought an XS would be too small since I'm size 4 normally, it's actually a bit too big! I'd prefer a tighter uniform, and at the end of my shift I let my manager S know so that he could bring some XXS unis in for me tomorrow.
In short, hostessing is really boring and I can't wait for them to be over so that I can get put on the floor and start making money... beach parking is expensive! I work again tomorrow for dinner, so hopefully it's busier and I actually have something to do.
1 training shift down, 4 more to go!
Life as a Hooters Girl

Getting Hired at Hooters and Orientation!
So I've wanted to be a Hooters girl for like 4 years now. It's always been something that I've been interested in, but I thought that I would never even make it past the application process. I'm 5'7" and roughly 120lbs., 34 A chest. DEFINITELY didn't think I had the boobs to be a Hooters girl. I mean, it's Hooters and I have none!
Well I finally got up the nerve to apply, and i found a location that was hiring, so I went in and filled out an application. It was pretty slow and all of the girls were busy talking with each other, so I walked up to the bar and asked for an application. Filled it out, and talked with the general manager, J. He really didn't ask me any questions other than "how do you feel about the uniform?" Of course, I said that everyone looks good in orange. He said, "great! Well, you're hired. Can you come in Monday for orientation?"
I WAS SO EXCITED!
Orientation was pretty boring, I signed a lot of paperwork. At the location that I work at, (not sure if it's the same for all of them) we have to tip out the bartender and hostess. It's only 2%, but that still sucks. I also signed a "seasonal agreement" because we are a beachfront location the work is VERY dependent upon the season. March thru October is slammed, and then I guess it's really really slow the rest of the time. It basically said that I can transfer to another Hooters location more inland for off-season, but when season hits I belong to the beach location. And of course there was the standard "we are a company based off of appearances and sexual undertones" thing which I had to sign so someone can't sue them for the look of their uniform, etc.
Then came the "Hooters girl class"....
I was with 3 other girls for this class. The manager, S, had us clock in and go up to the second story (yep, it's a 2 story Hooters!) where we met with our trainer. She was really nice, and went over the basics. The look; hair down and styled- either straight or curly- no in-between unless we are working the 2nd level on weekends in which case we can have our hair up, nails must be nicely manicured: most of the girls there have acrylic nails, and we can have any color we want as long as they look good and aren't chipped.
Then came the part I was most excited about! Our uniforms!!!
They gave me a bag with
* 2 standard white Hooters tank tops, one in small, one extra small
* 2 sets of orange shorts, extra small
* 1 pair of nylons
* 1 pair of the white retro scrunchy socks
I had to pay for the nylons and the socks, but it was only like $6 total for both of those. They told me that they'll give me my black uniform (for fridays) when they have them in stock.
For work, I have to buy:
*1 pair of white 3/4 inch heel sketchers non-slips -- $48
*Bombshell bra from Victoria's Secret in nude beige -- $54
(only because I didn't own a nude bra, only black)
Tomorrow is going to be my first of 5 hostessing shifts... Wish me luck!
